Photography has been my passion since I can remember.  I owe a debt of gratitude to my father who taught me how to use a totally manual film camera as a young kid as well as how to operate a separate hand held light meter. It gave me a solid grounding on the technical aspects of composition, exposure and focus.  Having access to a darkroom in the basement to process film and make my own prints helped a great deal as well.

Besides photographing hundreds of weddings over the years, raising seven kids has also blessed me with many opportunities to experiment and fine tune my craft.

I think a wide variety of life-experiences have helped me to be genuinely interested in the people I photograph.   I grew up in a rural area where my first work experiences included farming, bee keeping, and commercial net-fishing.  I attended the University of Saskatchewan and McGill University for music training and played 17 seasons with the Saskatoon Symphony and continue to play professionally, albeit much less than before.

In 2007 I completed a Masters degree in Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois and now my full time day-job is as an academic librarian in Archives and Special Collections at the University of Saskatchewan.  This position also allows me to exploit my passion for digital imaging as we share our rare and unique collections with the world online.

The one constant that has been with me since childhood is a camera of some sort and not a day goes by that I don't photograph someone or something.
